“Is it a boy?  Is it a girl?  Your guess is as good as mine!  I was personally never one “not to find out,” but I do have a handful of friends that have more willpower in their little pinky than I have in my entire body.  This past week, I had over my playgroup, which was supposed to include my preggie friend Allison, who had decided finding out the gender of her third was going to be a surprise!  Keeping with her theme, I thought it would be a cute idea to make the group, “Is It A Boy OR Girl Cake Pops!”  Guests simply choose the color they think the expectant mommy is going to have!  Well, turns out that sadly Allison didn’t make her mommy group shower due to her middle one, who was under the weather, so I dropped off a few pops for her AND guess what??  The girls who picked the pink cake pops were the WINNER..she welcomed a beautiful baby girl..very exciting!”
Ingredients
  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 16 oz. tub of frosting of your choice (I had 1/2 half vanilla & 1/2 chocolate so I combined)
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips OR 1 bag of melting chocolate pieces (find at arts and crafts store)
  • 1 cup red or pink melting chocolate pieces
  • blue sprinkles (find at your local chocolate store or order online)
  • pink or red sprinkles
  • toothpicks or lollypop sticks (find at party stores or stationary store)

Directions

1.)  Make cake according to directions in a sprayed baking pan

2.)   Once cake cools slightly; use a fork and crumble it all into a crumb-like consistency.

3.)   Place crumbs in a large bowl and mix in frosting until thoroughly combined. (Use your hands to get a good mix!)

4.)   Chill bowl in refrigerator for at least 2 hour.  The mixture MUST be cold before rolling into balls or you will get a mish-mash.
5.)   Roll cake with hands into walnut-sized balls and place on parchment or wax paper.
6.)   Put white chocolate in a microwavable bowl for 2 1/2 minutes and melt until smooth stirring every 45 seconds. (If melted chocolate appears to thick add in 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil to thin it out)
7.)   Using two large spoons dip the cake ball into the chocolate to completely coat and place each one onto wax paper.  Sprinkle the blue sprinkles on top and let set.  (Work fast so the balls stay cold and the melted chocolate stays silky sheen.)
8.)   Repeat with the pink chocolate and sprinkles.
9.)   Insert toothpicks or lollypop sticks into each one.
10.)  Place in refrigerator for a couple of hours to firm. (If you are in a rush place in freezer for less amount of time)

One Response to Is It A Boy OR Girl Cake Pops?

What an adorable blog. I’ve been trying to make cake pops but never get the dipping right bc the chocolate gets clumpy too fast. This weekend I put a tsp of oil into the melted chocolate and it did the trick!! Thanks for the tip. I look fwd to reading more stories.
